The Blue Earth (青いけもの,The Blue Earth?) is the third episode of the second season of Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier. It loosely adapts a one-shot story of the same title, though the original story had nothing to do with the Cyborg 009 series. The story also serves as an adaptation of a portion of the manga detailing 005's origin story.
A powerful blue cat-like beast is attacking construction sites and factories that create pollution, causing death and destruction. So 005 sets out for his homeland in the desert to stop its rampage.
In the flashback to his origins, Geronimo still has surgical scars on his body despite not being converted into a cyborg yet.

The original Blue Earth manga story
As stated above, this story was not a Cyborg 009 story, but an adaptation of a short story Shotaro Ishinomori wrote on January 20, 1975. The story was about a zoologist investigating the status of rare wild animals and the mysterious blue creature seen around the world attacking people. An environmental message and the creature are the only core elements of the story that were adapted. [1]
