Shinsuke Onishi (大西 信介, born February 15, 1958) is a Japanese scriptwriter and series planner for various anime, particularly Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier.

Bio[]

Work on "Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier"[]

In being in charge of the series configuration and the "bible" for how characters and events should go, Onishi had many significant contributions to the series, and many alterations can be attributed to him such as the revamped personalities for 002 and 004, and the "First Generation"/"Second Generation" 00 cyborgs concepts.

In conjunction with the director Jun Kawagoe and character designer Naoyuki Konno, other new characters would be developed and created for the series, and some existing characters gained new elements, such as 0012 having a human appearance.

Onishi would later be in charge of series configuration for the anime adaptation of 009-1, utilizing a similar approach to rewriting and modernizing the source material.

Episodes written[]

Out of the 51 episodes, Onishi had fully written 14 himself, and shared co-writer credit with Joe Onodera on the 3 episodes of GOD'S WAR: Prologue.

Post-"Cyborg Soldier", Onishi would co-write the 003 spotlight chapter "The Impossible Choice" in Onodera's first light novel of Conclusion GOD'S WAR, released in 2006. The chapter would receive some controversy for the infidelity angle with 003 sleeping with another man, and such elements were excised in the 2012 manga adaptation.
