Joe Shimamura, aka Cyborg 009, is one of the nine protagonists of the 2012 CGI film 009 Re:Cyborg.

For a majority of RE: Cyborg, Joe wears a white dress shirt and a black Japanese high school uniform that includes a black blazer with golden buttons and a popped collar, black trousers, and black dress shoes.

Later on, Joe starts wearing a modern version of the iconic 00 Cyborg outfit, a militaristic, double-breasted uniform with a bright yellow scarf. Like his fellow male 00 cyborgs, Joe's uniform is a darker red and it opens from the left side (reflecting how differently mens' and womens' jackets are designed to open).

By pressing a special switch located in a back tooth, Joe can move at extremely high speeds to the point where he disappears when using it. In an early Pepsi Nex commercial for RE: Cyborg, he is fast enough to put all the spilled soda back into an empty Pepsi bottle. At some point in the movie, he is able to outrun the the thermal blast of a nuclear explosion.

As a cyborg, Joe is able to survive at high altitudes, even space. He is capable of physical combat as he is able to fight Jet Link, who received extensive modifications from NASA.

  • Coincidentally, both Mamoru Miyano and Jason Griffith, 009's respective Japanese and English voice actors in 009 Re:Cyborg, have also played Cilan in Pokémon: Black & White.
  • It is ironic that Jason Griffith would be chosen to play Joe Shimamura, a superhuman speedster. Originally, Mr. Griffith was the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega video game series of the same name.
